Ia paari mai to outou varua i te pohe e ua fanauhia faahou outou mai te pohe mai, e mea faufaa roa ia faaamu i to outou varua. Your spirit needs to grow up and mature so that your spirit reigns in your life instead of your flesh. For years the flesh reigned as king in your life. You were a slave of your (Ti'aturi) flesh and lived in the bondage of sin and death. No reira, as is written in Ephesians 4:22, it’s time to put off the old man and to put on the new man, who is created after the image of God and born of the Holy Spirit. What does this mean and how do you put off the old man according to the Bible?
..The old man and what Jesus said about the old man and his nature, Hōʻere, and lifestyle is discussed in the previous article..
O vai te taata paari?
The old man is carnal and lives after the flesh (te) and led by his senses, Te mau nota, Te mau mana'o, Te mau mana'o, fa'atere, Te mau nota, Te mau nota, e te tahi atu â.
Ua pohe te varua o te taata paari. Since the spirit in the old man is dead, the old man is unspiritual, sense ruled, and led by his carnal mind. Therefore the old man can’t see the Kingdom of God nor comprehend the spiritual things of the Kingdom of God. (A tai'o atoa: Nahea e ti'a ai ia outou ia ite i te Basileia o te Atua?).
Because the old man can’t see the Kingdom of God and can’t comprehend the things of the Kingdom of God, they are foolishness to him.
Faith in Christ changes your life
When you believe in Jesus the Messiah and accept Jesus as your Saviour and ōhipa and make Him the Lord over your life, you made a choice to lay down your flesh in which sin and death reign.
No one force you to believe, repent and follow Jesus. You have made the choice to say farewell to your life as a sinner, e to'na mau hara atoa e to'na mau hinaaro atoa. Therefore you shall no longer live the way, you lived before your repentance, but you will start a whole new life in Jesus Christ; a life after the Spirit and not after the flesh anymore.
What happens when you are baptized?
Ia bapetizohia outou i roto i te pape, you symbolically lay down your former life; the old man with all his sins and iniquities and are raised in newness of life.
No ' na ïa i pohe no te hara (Roma 6:4-7)
You can’t become the new creation before the old creation died. (A tai'o atoa: E nehenehe anei ta outou e ora i te oraraa o te ti'a-faahou-raa ma te pohe ore?)
Na roto i te bapetizoraa, you lay down your old life (e hoa'ina) i roto i te Mesia, e i roto Ia'na, te mana o te Varua Mo'a, te taata apî (to outou varua) ua faaamuhia te pohe.
I roto i te fenua, Ua riro mai outou ei taata hamani apî. What took place in the spiritual realm becomes visible in the natural realm (the visible realm).
ta'na i te auraa, that your life and your walk and talk will change. Your speech and works shall line up with the confession of your faith and repentance and you shall walk as the new creation after the Word and the Spirit.
In order to walk after the Word, you have to get to know the Word. Because you can’t walk after the Word if you don’t know the Word.
This means that you have to renew your mind with the Word of God. When you renew your old carnal mind that thinks like the world with the Word of God and you obey the Word and become a doer of the Word, then you shall grow up into a mature son of God (e tano te reira no te tane e te vahine), who knows the will of the Father.
As a mature son of God, you shall walk as the new creation in obedience to the will of the Father. You shall represent Jesus Christ and the Father, e a poro e a faaite i te Basileia o te Atua i te taata. (A tai'o atoa: Te oto nei te fenua e te tiai noa ra te reira i te mau tamarii a te Atua’).
What does it mean to put off the old man?
Put off the old man means that you lay down the habits and works of the sinful flesh.
Ua faahiti outou i te reira no nia i te aparauraa tahito, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts” (Ephesia 4:22)
Ia riro ana'e outou ei ohipa apî (taure'a), it’s time to put off the old man; the former man, who had the nature of the devil and walked after the flesh in obedience to the will, te mau hinaaro e te mau hinaaro o te tino, and to put on the new man, who is created after the image of God and has the nature of God.
The word ‘put off’ is translated from the Greek word ‘apotithēmi’ which means o.a. cast off, lay apart, lay aside, taoto i raro, put away, a tuu.
You will put off the old man like you put off pieces of garments. This is not something that God has to do, but that you have to do.
How long it takes to put off the old man depends on you. The more you love God and the more you hate your former carnal life as a sinner and its te mau hara, the quicker you will obey the Word and stop doing the works of the old man.
What are the works of the old man?
The works of the old man are clearly defined in Colossians 3:5-10 and Galatians 5:19-21. These works do not belong in the life of born again Christians. These works are not the works of the new man but the old man.
No reira, e mea au roa na to outou mau melo o tei niuhia i ni'a i te fenua; Te mau nota, Te mau nota, Fa'ahou'āra'a, mau, e te ti'aturi ore e te hepohepo rahi, e te hepohepo rahi, e te hapa ore e te hepohepo., mau: No taua mau mea ra, ‘e tae mai te riri o te Atua i nia i te mau tamarii o te faaroo ore: In the which you also walked some time, when you lived in them. But now you also put off all these; Aute'a, Utu'ā, pā'ōfa'i, ma'ohiroa, Te mau paraparauraa viivii i rapae i to outou vaha. Eiaha e haavare te tahi i te tahi, no te mea ho'i e, ua faaru'e outou i te taata tahito e ta'na mau ohipa; E ua tuu oia i te taata apî, tei faaho'i-faahou-hia mai i roto i te ite i muri a'e i te hoho'a o'na o tei hamani i te hoho'a (Kolosa 3:5-10)
I teie nei, ua itehia mai te mau ohipa a te tino, eaha teie mau mea; Te faaturi, Te mau nota, Te mau nota, fa'ahou'a, Te haamoriraa idolo, Mō'o, āmui, tū'era'a, fa'a'ōfa'i, Utu'ā, pārahi, Tau'āra'a, I itehia, Te mau hinaaro, tā'u, iti, Te mau oro'a, e te tahi atu mau mea: o ta'u e parau atu ia outou na mua'tu, mai ta'u i parau atu ia outou na mua'tu, eita te feia e rave ra i teie mau mea e fana'o i te Basileia o te Atua (Galatia 5:19-21)
Therefore you must put off these works. No te mea te parau ra te Bible e, teie mau; ta'o'a, who do these things shall not inherit the Kingdom of God.

How do you put off the old man?
You put off the old man and his works by changing your life (Fa'ahou, Te mau nota). Stop feeding your flesh; to outou huru feruriraa tahito, Te mau nota, Tā'ere'ere, Te mau nota, Te mau mana'o, Te mau nota, Te mau nota, e te tahi atu â. and stop obeying them. Don’t be led by them and don’t give into them. Maoti râ, feed your spirit with the Word of God, obey the Word and the Spirit, and be led by Them.
When you feed your spirit with the Word of God, pray and speak in other tongues, you shall build yourself in your most holy faith.
During the process of putting off the old man, te haapaeraa maa plays an important role. Because when you fast you ‘kill’ te iho (A tai'o atoa: What is the meaning of fasting?).
When you feed your spirit and renew your mind with the Word of God, you shall get to know the will of God and think like the new creation.
When you think like the new creation, you will speak and act as the new creation.
You shall put on the new man and walk as the new man; the new creation after the will of God.
The new creation is risen with Christ and seated in Him in the heavenly places. No reira, the new creation seeks the things which are above and not on this earth (te,o, Ephesia 2:5-6, Kolosa 3:1).
When you feed your spirit with the Word, ha'api'i, and speak in tongues, your spirit shall mature and shall become stronger than your flesh.
Your flesh, which has always reigned as king in your life, shall scream and try to get your attention, so that you will give into the cravings, Te mau nota, e te mau hinaaro o to outou tino.
But as long as you follow the Word and say and do what the Word says and don’t listen to your flesh and don’t give in and keep feeding your spirit, your spirit shall reign together with the Word and the Holy Spirit as King in your life.
It’s important to put off the old man. Because when you put off the old man, you shall no longer be led and dominated by your senses, Te feruri, and your carnal way of thinking, Te mau nota, Te mau nota, Te mau nota, Te mau mana'o, e te tahi atu â.
You shall no longer be a slave of your sinful flesh and controlled by the kingdom of darkness. But you shall reign in Jesus Christ from the Kingdom of God over your flesh and over sin.
