The stone that was set up as a pillar was a witness and sign for the offspring and the proof of what God had done. All the stones that were set up for a pillar in the Old Covenant were a reference to the living Stone, Ježíš Kristus, Who is the sign and witness of God’s word and great redemptive work for fallen man, a nová smlouva, which is sealed by His precious blood.

Jacob set up a pillar of stone and anointed the pillar of stone

V Genesis 28:18, we read about the pillar and the anointing of the pillar of stone. Jacob used this stone as his pillow on his journey. Jacob fled from his father’s house from his brother Esau and was on his way to his uncle’s house.

On this pillow, Jacob dreamt and had an encounter with the living God of his father Isaac and grandfather Abraham

In his dream, Jacob saw a ladder, which was set up on the earth and the top reached to heaven. The angels of God ascended and descended on this ladder, while the Lord stood above it and said:

I am the Lord God of Abraham, thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I Give it, and to thy seed; And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed. A, spatřit, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of

Genesis 28:13-15

When Jacob woke up, he said that the Lord was in that place, and he didn’t know it. It was the house of God and the gate to heaven.

Jacob took the stone he had for his pillow and set it up for a pillar. Then Jacob poured oil upon the top of the pillar stone and called the name of that place Bethel (before Luz).

Jacob made a vow to God after the anointing of the pillar of stone

Jacob made a vow to God that if God would be with him and keep him on his way and provide for him, and return to his father’s house in peace, then the Lord would be his God.

Kámen, which Jacob set for a pillar would be God’s house. And of everything God would give to Jacob, Jacob would give a tenth k Bohu (Genesis 28:20-22).

Obrázek kámen v divočině a biblické verši Genesis 31-13 Jsem bůh Bethel, kde jsi pomazal sloup a kde jsi mi slíbil

The place where Jacob anointed the stone was near the area where Abraham went after he left his country and his father’s house.

It was near the place where God appeared unto Abraham and made the promise, and Abraham built an altar unto the Lord and called upon His Name (Genesis 12).

During Jacob’s stay with his uncle Laban, God appeared again unto Jacob.

He made Himself known as the God of Bethel, where Jacob anointed the pillar and vowed a vow unto God.

God commanded Jacob to return to his native land. Jacob obeyed the word of God and fled from Laban’s house. When Laban heard that Jacob had fled with his household, he pursued Jacob (Genesis 31:13).

God commanded Jacob to go to Bethel, dwell there, and make an altar

After Laban’s pursuit and the making of the covenant between Jacob and Laban, whereof the pillar stone and the heap of stones were for a witness, and after the wrestling with God, the encounter with his brother Esau, and the other events, God commanded Jacob to arise and go up to Bethel and dwell there and make an altar unto God.

Jacob obeyed the word of God. He told his household and all the people with him, to remove the strange gods from among them, cleanse themselves, and change their clothes.

The people obeyed the words of Jacob. They gave all their strange gods, which were in their hands, and all their earrings, which were in their ears. Then Jacob hid them under the oak tree that was at Shechem.

When they arrived in Bethel (Luz), Jacob built an altar. Jacob called the place Elbethel because God appeared unto him there.

Po nějaké době, God appeared to Jacob again. God blessed Jacob and changed his name to Israel, which means prince. God made the same vow with Jacob as He did with Abraham and Isaac.

Jacob set up a pillar of stone in the place where God talked with him. He poured a drink offering and poured oil thereon and called the name of the place Bethel (Genesis 35:9-15).

The Shepherd, the Stone of Israel, was for a witness and sign for the seed of Jacob

God remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, a Jacob. God kept His promise and fulfilled His word by delivering His people from Egypt and returning them to the promised land.

The mighty God of Jacob (Izrael) showed His faithfulness, velikost, and love for His people by fulfilling His promise and the many signs and wonders and became the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel, for a witness and sign for the seed of Jacob (Izrael).

Nyní, it was up to the people to show their love for God and serve Him with a devoted heart and fulfill their part of the covenant through obedience to His word and by keeping His commandments.

The witness of the two tablets of stones with the Ten Commandments

God revealed His will through His words and by writing the ten commandments on two tablets of stone.

These two tablets of stone were a witness of God and unto a testimony for the seed of Israel.

The tablets of stone with the ten commandments were part of the covenant and a witness of God’s will, svatost, a spravedlnost.

Through the revelation of God’s will, svatost, a spravedlnost, sin was revealed to God’s people. (Přečtěte si také: Why did God write His law on two tablets of stone?)

God appointed Joshua as Moses’s successor and leader of His people

After Moses’ death, not one of his sons took over the leadership of their father. God didn’t pass the leadership role over to one of Moses’s sons, but God chose Joshua. God appointed Joshua as Moses’s successor and the leader of His people.

Joshua had shown his love, víra, věrnost, and warfare mentality to God through his life. God knew that He could trust Joshua. Proto, God gave Joshua the task to lead His people and enter and take the promised land.

After God spoke to Joshua, he immediately took on his role, task, and responsibility as leader of God’s people and instructed the people.

The crossing of the river Jordan

When it was time to pass over the river Jordan, God gave instructions to Joshua, které Joshua poslechl.

Through Joshua’s obedience to God’s word and the obedience of the priests and the people to the word of Joshua, God showed His power by cutting off the water and making a way through the river Jordan for the thousands of Israelites to cross over.

The witness of the twelve stones from the river Jordan

God commanded Joshua to take twelve men from the twelve tribes of Israel and take twelve stones out of the midst of the Jordan, where the priests’ feet stood firm, a to carry them over and leave them in their lodging place.

Then God commanded Joshua to set up twelve stones in the midst of Jordan in the place where the feet of the priests, who bare the ark of the covenant, stood.

The twelve stones from the river Jordan would be a sign and a witness for the children of Israel, and a remembrance unto eternity, that the waters of the river Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord in which the two tablets of stones with the Lord’s ten commandments were, when it passed over Jordan.

The twelve stones which Joshua pitched in Gilgal would be a memorial forever that God’s people came over this Jordan on dry land. Just like God did to the Red Sea, which He dried up from before the people of Israel until they passed over. So that all the people of the earth might know that the hand of the Lord is mighty, and that they may fear the Lord their God forever (Jozue 1-4).

The promise of the seed of Israel to God

Po victory on Jericho a death of Achan, whereby God turned from His anger and God’s people were redeemed from the curse, and after many other victories of Joshua and his army, and Joshua was old, and God had given rest unto Israel from their enemies, and his time came to leave the earth, Joshua gathered the tribes of Israel to Shechem and called for the elders, heads, judges and officers of Israel and they presented themselves before God.

Joshua spoke to the people in the name of the Lord, bůh Izraele.

image mountains and bible verse joshua 24-27 Spatřit, this stone shall be a witness unto us; for it hath heard all the words of the LORD which he spake unto us: it shall be therefore a witness unto you, lest ye deny your God

He told them about their fathers Terah, Abraham, Isaac, a Jacob, the stay of his seed in Egypt, how God sent Moses and Aaron and delivered them, and their stay in the wilderness.

Joshua also told them about the promised land and how God gave the Amorites into their hand, so that they might possess their land, and He destroyed them from before them.

God had done so much for them and given them all they needed. They had not worked, built, and planted vineyards and olivetrees in the land, but God gave it to them.

Now it was their turn to fear the Lord their God and serve Him in sincerity and truth, and put away the gods, which their fathers served on the other side of the flood and in Egypt. The people promised they would do that and serve God and obey His voice.

And so Joshua (as representative of God) made a covenant with the people and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.

Then Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, took a great stone, and set it up there under an oak that was by the Lord’s sanctuary.

Joshua set up a stone for a witness of the words of God and the covenant

Joshua told the people that the stone would be a witness unto them. Because the stone heard all the words of the Lord, which He spake unto them. Proto, the stone would be a witness unto them, unless they denied their God. (Jozue 24 (Přečtěte si také: Vyberte si tento den, komu budete sloužit).

Was the stone placed under the same oak tree, where Jacob buried all the strange gods and the earrings of his household and the people that were with him? Were all the things that were evil in the eyes of the Lord and defiled Jacob and his household buried under the stone?

Was it a reference to the coming of the living Stone, whereby a Nová smlouva would be established and that would deal with the fallen state and evil sinful nature of the old man?

For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: spatřit, I will engrave the graving thereof, praví Hospodin zástupů, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day. In that day, praví Hospodin zástupů, shall ye call every man his neighbour under the vine and under the fig tree (Zachariáš 3:9-10)

The sign of the Son of man

Ježíš Kristus, Syn Boží, came to the earth as a Witness of God and His spoken word and a Witness to the people. The perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross brought atonement for the souls before the Lord. Since every sacrifice was burned with fire, likewise the sacrifice of Jesus.

Neboť On Ho učinil hříchem za nás, který neznal hřích; abychom v Něm mohli být učiněni Boží spravedlností (2 Corinthisans 5:21)

Ježíš Kristus, Kdo byl bez hříchu, was made sin by the Father and became equal to sinners. Kvůli tomu, Ježíš šel do pekla, where He stayed for three days and three nights. Ježíš’ stay in hell was with the wicked (the liars, zloději, vrahy, cizoložníci, smilníci, idolaters, čarodějové, atd.) and the rich, who all lived in rebellion to God.

Ježíš’ stay in hell was a sign not only to the people of Israel but the whole fallen human race. (Přečtěte si také: Co udělal Ježíš v pekle?)

He made His grave with the wicked, and with the rich in His death; protože se nedopustil žádného násilí, v ústech Jeho nebyl žádný podvod. Přesto se Pánu líbilo, že Ho pohmoždil; On Ho zarmoutil: když učiníš jeho duši obětí za hřích, Uvidí své semeno, Prodlouží své dny, a zalíbení Páně bude v jeho ruce prosperovat. He shall see of the travail of his soul, a bude spokojen: Svým poznáním můj spravedlivý Služebník ospravedlní mnohé; neboť ponese jejich nepravosti

Izajáš 53:9-11

Nicméně, Ježíš tam nezůstal, since God’s power is stronger than death. Proto, after three days, Jesus rose as Victor from the grave with the keys of hell (Hades, the kingdom of the death and the dead) a smrt.

The keys of hell and death were not only evidence of His victory. But the keys also testified of His stay in hell (Hades) and the battle with the death.

An angel came and rolled the stone away from the entrance of His grave. So that Jesus could leave the grave, where His body laid for three days, in His new resurrection body.

The witness of the living Stone

All the words and prophecies of the prophets, kteří žili ve Staré smlouvě, were fulfilled by the coming of Jesus the Christ in the flesh and through His words, chůze, utrpení, smrt, resurrection from the death, ascension to heaven, and placement on the throne.

image rock and bible verse acts 4-11-12 this is the stone which was set at nought of you builders which is become the head of the corner neither is there salvation in any other for there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved.

As the stones from the Old Covenant were set up as a sign and witness of God and His word, His love, His greatness and His power, so Jesus became a living Stone unto a sign and witness of God’s word, love and redemptive work for fallen man and His power and the New Covenant in His blood.

And on the witness of this Stone, God’s church is built.

The testimony of Jesus Christ is still powerful and will always remain powerful. No one can do anything about the witness of Christ’s death, vzkříšení, nanebevstoupení, and His High-Priesthood and Kingship in the Kingdom of heaven.

Even when Christians are deceived through lies or silenced through the pressures of the world and persecution, the witness of the living Stone stands forever.

The living stones witness of the living Stone

And the people, who believe in the witness of the living Stone and become born again in Him and belong to Him and follow Him, shall be living stones that are build up to a spiritual house (God’s temple).

The living stones witness of the living Stone Jesus Christ, Who gave His life for the dead to make atonement for their souls and redeem them and make them living stones, who hear and testify of the words of God, and from which rivers of living water flow. The Pillar of Stone of the New Covenant is a witness for all nations

The Pillar of stone of the New Covenant is a witness for all people (nations) navždy.

It’s up to the people to either believe in Jesus Christ and make the chosen and precious living Stone of God the Rock of their salvation and built upon this chief Cornerstone and by the Spirit live as witnesses of Him, holy in the Lord, and bear the fruit thereof, or to be disobedient and reject the living Stone, which is set up as a witness by God for all eternity.
