Tlhokahalo ea tsoalo e ncha

Se tsoaloang nama ke nama; le tse tsoetsoeng ke moea ke moea (Johanne 3:6).

We have a spirit, moya le mmele. The question you might ask yourselves is: am I carnal and do I live after the flesh? Ka mantsoe a mang: does my flesh direct my steps and actions? Or do I live after the Spirit, and does my spirit direct my steps and actions?

tlhokahalo ea tsoalo e nchaYou can live after the flesh or you can live after the Spirit. If you walk after the flesh, then the result will be bad. But if you life after the Spirit then the result will be good.

Seo monna a se jalang, o tla kotula. Ha o jala nameng, you will reap corruption and if you sow in the Spirit, you will reap life everlasting (Bala hape: Seo u se jalang, o tla kotula).

But let’s have a look at what Jesus meant by the new birth. What He meant, when He said, that you can only kena Mmusong wa Modimo if you are born of water and Spirit. (Jn 3:3, 7)

In order to understand these words, we must pay attention to the fact that Jesus came to the earth to deal with the sin problem, and restore the union between God and man.

If Jesus needed to restore the union, it means that union was there once, but was broken. Ka hona, we need to go back to the Serapa sa Edene to understand the necessity of the new birth.

Throughout human history we see, that people chose the way of the flesh; walking in obedience to the devil, instead the way of the Spirit; walking in obedience to the Father. This started already in the Garden of Eden, where Adam and Eve chose the carnal tree of knowledge rather than the holy tree of life. Because they desired and chose the carnal tree above the holy tree of life, God was compelled to pronounce the sentence of dead upon them.

Adama e ne e le moya o phelang

Adama e ne e le moya o phelang, born out of the Spirit. O ne a le mong le Modimo. But after he sinned, kahlolo ea lefu ea mo oela holimo. And God said to him, that as he came from dust, and was dust, he also would return to dust.

Pele Adama a etsa sebe, tšobotsi ea hae e ka sehloohong e ne e le moea, but after he became disobedient to God and sinned, his predominant characteristic was flesh.

That sentence of death, that carnal disposition, was passed on to the entire human race. Bohle, ya neng a tla tswalwa lelokong la motho, would carry the death. Therefore everyone, who is born on this earth is carnal, and is a prisoner of the sin nature. Ha ho na motho ea qheletsoeng ka thoko.

How do you enter the Kingdom of God?

Because we are carnal and carry the sin nature, we cannot enter in this status the Kingdom of God:

Empa motho wa nama ha a amohele dintho tsa Moya wa Modimo: Hobane ke booatla ho eena: ebile ha a ka a tseba, Hobane ba lemohile moeeng moeeng (1 Korinthe 2:14)

Joale ke re, baena, hore nama le madi di ke ke tsa rua Mmuso wa Modimo; leha ho le joalo bobolu ba sepollo se fosahetse (1 Korinthe 15:50)

Modimo ke Moya: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth (Johanne 4:24)

What is the necessity of the new birth?

Now you see the necessity of becoming born again. Only by the new birth can we receive eternal life and enter the Kingdom of God.

This spiritual life can ONLY be achieved through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Faith is the catalyst that brings us to an encounter with the Holy Spirit, who regenerates us, so that we are born into the heavenly realm just as you were once born into the earthly realm.

Necessity of the new birth emphasised in other places

The necessity of the new birth is emphasised in other places:

  • The universal results of sin demands it:

Ka nako eo, Joalo ka motho a le mong sebe se kene lefatšeng, le lefu ke sebe; Mme ka hona Lefu le fetisitse banna bohle, hobane tsohle li entse sebe (ROM 5:12)

Joalokaha ho ngotsoe, Haho ya lokileng, che, eseng a le mong (ROM 3:10)

  • Unregenerate man is unable to understand or receive the gifts of God

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: Hobane ke booatla ho eena: ebile ha a ka a tseba, Hobane ba lemohile moeeng moeeng (1 CO 2:14)

  • Without the new birth everything we do, tšusumetso le liketso tsohle li silafetse

Bakeng sa ho tsoa ka hare, ho tsoa pelong tsa batho, tswela pele mehopolo e mebe, Litheolelo, Mathata, LITLHAKISO, Bosholu, ho chacheha ka mohono, Bokhopo, thetso, LaScivillaness, leihlo le lebe, blasphemy, Boikhohomoso, bohlanya: Lintho tsena tsohle tse mpe li tsoa ka hare, le silafatsa motho (Mar 7:21-23)

  • Unless we are born again we have no escape from the judgment of God

And you hath he quickened, ba neng ba shoele litsing le libe; Ha nako e ntse e tsamaea ha nako e ntse e tsamaea e ile ea tsamaea ho ea ka nako ea lefatše lena, Ho latela khosana ea matla a moea, the spirit that now worth in the children of disobedience: bao mehleng e fetileng re kileng ra ba le metsamao hara bona, ka ditakatso tsa nama ya rona, ho phethahatsa ditakatso tsa nama le tsa kelello; mme ka tlholego e ne e le bana ba tšhakgalo, joalo ka ba bang (Eph 2:1-3)
