As you have received Christ Jesus, so walk in Him, abounding with thanksgiving

As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in Him: Rooted and built up in Him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving (Colossians 2:6-7)

Paul saw in the spirit, the order of the saints in Colosse and the steadfastness of their faith in Christ and instructed the saints, as they had received Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord, to walk in Christ, rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith as they were taught, abounding with thanksgiving.

The new creation walks in Christ, rooted and built up in Him and stablished in the faith

And just like the saints in Colosse, everyone, who believes in Jesus Christ and received Him as Savior and Lord, and learned Jesus Christ, should put off concerning the former manner of life the old man, who is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts and put on the new man.

And be not conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind

If you have become a new creation in Christ, you shall constantly renew your mind with the Word, so that your mind will line up with the Word and you shall know the will of God.

Because how can you walk by faith in the will of God if you don’t know His Word and His will?

By the renewing of your mind with the Word and by submitting yourself to the Word, obeying the Word, and doing the Word in your life, you shall be rooted and built up in Him and be stablished in the faith.

And while you walk steadfast in the faith in obedience to Jesus Christ and do what the Word tells you to do, you shall abound therein with thanksgiving.

The new creation walks in Christ, abounding with thanksgiving

No matter what the circumstances may be, you shall always be thankful and abound with thanksgiving, because that’s the power of the sons of God (both males as females), who walk after the Spirit and not after the flesh.

Murmuring, whining, and complaining is part of the nature of the old man; the old creation (sinner), and doesn’t belong in the life of the new man; the new creation (saint).

After God delivered His people from slavery in Egypt and led His people to the promised land, we read several times, that during the time in the wilderness God’s people murmured, whined, and complained, despite God’s provisions and miracles.

In everything give thanks to God

The people had a different expectation of their God and because God did not meet their requirements, many of His people were disappointed, unsatisfied, and unthankful and began to murmur, whine and complain (Read also: ‘The expectation of people‘).

They remembered their time in Egypt and wanted to return to Egypt.

They’d rather return to Egypt and live in slavery under the oppression of Pharaoh than stay with God and live in freedom in the wilderness.

But God hated all the murmuring and whining of His people. We read where all the murmuring and whining led to.

Because although they all belonged to God’s people, God was not well pleased with most of them, and they were overthrown in the wilderness.

Let this be an example for us, so that we shall not lust after evil things and not be dissatisfied and unthankful, but always be thankful (a.o. Numbers 14:26-35; 17, 1 Corinthians 10:1-13).

Even if life doesn’t go as planned and something happens that changes your future, always remain thankful to the Lord in every situation and don’t complain, whine and murmur (Read also: ‘The thankfulness of the sons of God‘).

Everyone can murmur, whine and complain, there’s nothing special about that. But those, who have become a new creation; a son of God and are rooted in Christ and established in the faith distinguish themselves by always giving thanks and honor to God the Father and Jesus Christ with their mouth, conduct, and attitude in every situation, so that they will exalt God with their lives.
