To sin or not to sin is the decision you make in life. Every person is responsible for his or her own life and decides to believe God and His Word (Biblían) and walk in the will of God or not. Just like the Father, Jesus gave a command to sin no more but it was up to the people to give heed to his command or not. Let’s look at the story of the healing of the lame man at the pool of Bethesda and the woman who committed adultery and was caught in the act.
The healing of the lame man at the pool of Bethesda
Í Jóhannesi 5:1-15, Jesús læknaði mann, sem hafði veikleika fyrir 38 Ára. Þessi halti maður lá á rúmi við laugina í Bethesda.
When Jesus saw the lame man, He went to him and asked him if he wanted to get well. Hinn halti svaraði Jesú, that he didn’t have anyone to bring him to the water to get healed.
Þá bauð Jesús manninum að rísa upp, taka rúm sitt og ganga. The man obeyed the words of Jesus and stood up and walked. Hinn halti var læknaður af Jesú! But what did Jesus say to him about the decision to sin or not to sin?
Why did Jesus say to Sin no more?
When Jesus met the man who was healed of his infirmity in the Temple in Jerusalem, Jesús bauð manninum að syndga ekki lengur. Why did Jesus say to sin no more? Lest a worse thing would come unto him.
Jesús læknaði manninn af veikindum hans (veikleika hans). Maðurinn varð heill og Guðs ríki var komið til hans.
Ríki myrkursins hafði heillað manninn fyrir 38 Ára. But when Jesus came and the power of the Kingdom of heaven came upon him, maðurinn var leystur úr ánauð sinni.
Síðan fann Jesús hann í musterinu, og sagði við hann, Sjá, þú ert gjörður: syndga ekki lengur, svo að ekki komi þér eitthvað verra
John 5:14
Jesús leysti manninn úr andlegu fangelsi myrkursins
Jesus released this lame man from this spiritual prison of darkness. Now that this man was released from this spiritual prison of darkness, Jesus commanded the healed man to no violate the spiritual laws by sinning.
Með öðrum orðum; Jesus told the man to keep the commandments and do the Vilji Guðs and stay obedient to God instead of obeying and doing the will of the devil (sem vinnur í holdinu) með því að syndga.
Because if the man decided to reject the commandment of Jesus and disobey God and sin, he would be taken captive again by the forces of darkness and worse things would happen to him.
Jesús varaði manninn við, because the man was carnal. He didn’t see the spiritual realm and couldn’t discern the spirits. But Jesus was spiritual and knew the spirit realm and the spiritual laws and revealed it to him through His word.
Jesus knew the Kingdom of Heaven and the kingdom of darkness. He wanted this man to stay free and not become a prisoner of the devil and darkness again.
Þess vegna, Jesús bauð manninum að syndga ekki lengur.
Jesús sagði, Go and sin no more to the woman that committed adultery
Í Jóhannesi 8:1-11, we read about a woman that was caught in the act of adultery. The woman that committed adultery was brought unto Jesus. Fræðimennirnir og farísearnir sökuðu konuna um hór og sögðu Jesú hvað hún hafði gert.
They suggested to stone her according to the Lögmál Móse. But the words of these men didn’t come from a good conscience. They only wanted to tempt Jesus, so that they could accuse Him.
Jesús skrifaði á jörðina með fingri sínum og sagði við þá, “He who’s sinless among you, lát hann vera fyrstur til að kasta steininum yfir hana“.
Jesus knew that the people that belonged to the old generation of fallen man were carnal. They were trapped in the sinful nature of the flesh.
Instead of stoning the adultrous woman, the men left one by one until there was no one left except Jesus and the adultrous woman.
Á þeirri stundu, Jesus had the power to condemn the woman and stone her. Because Jesus walked in the authority of the Kingdom of God (sem nýja sköpun) and was sinless.
Hins vegar, Jesus said to the woman that He wouldn’t condemn her either. Since it was not Jesus’ time to judge but to save.
EN… Jesús samþykkti ekki of her work of adultery. Jesus commanded the woman to go her way and syndga ekki lengur.
Jesús sagði við hana, Ég fordæmi þig ekki heldur: fara, og syndgið ekki lengur
John 8:11
Hin nýja sköpun er aðskilin frá heiminum
When you repent and become born again in Christ and enter the Kingdom of God, you leave the kingdom of darkness and are separated from the world. You have been forgiven, innleyst, and made whole and righteous by the blood of Jesus Christ.
You’ve become new creation and as a result of this spiritual transformation, þú munt slepptu gamla manninum þínum með sínum gömlu venjum.
Þú munt ekki lengur ganga eins og þú gekkst fyrir iðrun þína, because you repented from that lifestyle and its works (af holdinu).
Það er nauðsynlegt að gera sér grein fyrir því þú ert ekki lengur syndari. You have become a saint through regeneration in Christ.
If you don’t realize and believe this, you will always think and live as a sinner. You’ll be stuck in your sins and never be freed from your sins.
Þegar þú fæddist aftur, þú steigðir úr einu andlegu ríki í annað (Kólossubúar 1:13-14)
In your old life, you thought like the world and walked in sin (sin = disobedience to God. It’s everything that goes against the Word of God that represents the will of God) and you were of the devil.
The nature of the devil will do his will
You had the character and nature of your father the devil. In your fallen state, þú varst ekki fær um að lúta Guði og gera vilja hans. Í staðinn, you lived after the will of the flesh in rebellion.
You were rebellious towards God and His Word and obedient to the words and will of the devil (viljann, girnd, and desire of your flesh), og lifði í synd. Biblían segir, at ef þú syndgar, you have the devil as father and do the lust thereof (John 8:44).

Eðli Guðs mun gera vilja hans
From the moment you are born again and receive the nature of your Father God, you will long for Him and the things of His Kingdom. There must be a desire to do the will of God and to walk according to what God says.
A real father knows what is good for his child. A real father wants the best for his child. Ef jarðneskur faðir vill börnum sínum það besta, hversu miklu fremur þinn himneski faðir.
Þess vegna, God revealed His will to us in His Word (Biblían).
God revealed to us not only what pleases Him and what displeases Him, but He also revealed the way of salvation, hvernig á að verða ný sköpun and how to walk as the new creation in His will.
God revealed it all in the Bible which is His Word. Svo að, Leið hans verður þín leið og His thoughts becomes your thoughts.
Did the people choose to sin or not to sin?
Jesús sagði manninum, sem læknaðist af veikleika sínum og konunni, sem var gripinn fyrir framhjáhald, að syndga ekki lengur. Þess vegna, these people had the power to sin no more. They had the power to say ‘no to sin’. But did they obey the commandment of Jesus and choose to sin no more or not?
Jesús sagði við hann, Þú skalt elska Drottin Guð þinn af öllu hjarta þínu, og af allri sálu þinni, og af öllum huga þínum. Þetta er fyrsta og stóra boðorðið. Og annað er því líkt, Þú munt elska nágranna þinn eins og sjálfur. Á þessum tveimur boðorðum hangir allt lögmálið og spámennirnir (Matthías 22:37-40)
Konan hafði vald til að segja „nei’ til framhjáhalds, vegna þess að annars, Jesús hefði ekki gefið henni það boðorð að syndga ekki lengur. Spurningin er, svaraði konan Jesú’ boðorð um að syndga ekki framar?
Did the adulterous woman obey the commandment of Jesus or did she let her feelings, girnd hennar, and her desire rule over the words of Jesus and give in to her feelings of lust and desire?
Mundu, þegar Jesús bauð að syndga ekki framar, His crucifixion and the úthelling heilags anda had not taken place yet.
So these people were not born again. They were still the old creation. However the old creation had the power to say ‘no’ að syndga og að syndga ekki framar.
Þú hefur líka vald til að syndga ekki lengur. Þú ákveður að syndga eða syndga ekki.

Frelsast af náð og vinna verk andans
Þú ert ekki hólpinn af verkum, but by grace. En að vera undir náð þýðir ekki að þú hafir leyfi til að halda áfram að syndga. Vegna þess að ef hold þitt hefur dáið í Kristi þegar þú fæddist aftur, hvernig getur þú gert verk holdsins?
Þú skalt elska Drottin Guð þinn af öllu hjarta þínu, og af allri sálu þinni og öllum huga þínum, og þú skalt elska náunga þinn eins og sjálfan þig (Matthías 22:37-40)
When you are saved and born again, you see the nature and effect of sin, sem er ávöxtur dauðans. You will hate sin, alveg eins og Guð. Þú munt hata fyrra líf þitt sem syndara og munt ekki snúa aftur til þess. (Lestu líka: Getur þú haldið áfram að syndga undir náð?)
Þegar þér elska Guð af öllu hjarta, sál, Hugur, og styrk skalt þú elska að gera vilja hans.
You shall spend time with God and renew your mind with the Word of God (Biblían) and apply His words into your life, svo að þú gjörir orð Guðs og gjörir andans verk. Þú þarft ekki að, en þú vilt, af því að þú ert skapaður í líkingu hans og elskar Guð.
Þegar Orðið og Heilagur Andi búa innra með þér, þú munt ganga eftir andanum í hlýðni við Orðið. Þú munt ganga í ást, heilagleika, og réttlæti, að gera vilja föðurins og upphefja hann og vegsama.
