To sin or not to sin is the decision you make in life. Every person is responsible for his or her own life and decides to believe God and His Word (Alkitab) and walk in the will of God or not. Just like the Father, Jesus gave a command to sin no more but it was up to the people to give heed to his command or not. Let’s look at the story of the healing of the lame man at the pool of Bethesda and the woman who committed adultery and was caught in the act.
The healing of the lame man at the pool of Bethesda
Di John 5:1-15, Yesus menyembuhkan seorang pria, yang mempunyai kelemahan 38 bertahun-tahun. Orang lumpuh ini terbaring di tempat tidur di kolam Betesda.
When Jesus saw the lame man, He went to him and asked him if he wanted to get well. Orang lumpuh itu menjawab Yesus, that he didn’t have anyone to bring him to the water to get healed.
Kemudian Yesus memerintahkan orang itu untuk bangkit dan mengambil tempat tidurnya dan berjalan. The man obeyed the words of Jesus and stood up and walked. Orang lumpuh itu disembuhkan oleh Yesus! But what did Jesus say to him about the decision to sin or not to sin?
Why did Jesus say to Sin no more?
When Jesus met the man who was healed of his infirmity in the Temple in Jerusalem, Yesus memerintahkan manusia untuk tidak berbuat dosa lagi. Why did Jesus say to sin no more? Lest a worse thing would come unto him.
Yesus menyembuhkan pria itu dari penyakitnya (kelemahannya). Manusia itu menjadi utuh dan Kerajaan Allah telah datang kepadanya.
Kerajaan kegelapan telah memikat pria itu 38 bertahun-tahun. But when Jesus came and the power of the Kingdom of heaven came upon him, pria itu dibebaskan dari perbudakannya.
Setelah itu Yesus menemukannya di kuil, dan berkata kepadanya, Melihat, kamu telah menjadi utuh: tidak berdosa lagi, jangan sampai hal yang lebih buruk menimpamu
Yohanes 5:14
Yesus membebaskan pria itu dari penjara kegelapan rohani
Jesus released this lame man from this spiritual prison of darkness. Now that this man was released from this spiritual prison of darkness, Jesus commanded the healed man to no violate the spiritual laws by sinning.
Dengan kata lain; Jesus told the man to keep the commandments and do the kehendak Tuhan and stay obedient to God instead of obeying and doing the will of the devil (yang bekerja dalam daging) dengan berbuat dosa.
Because if the man decided to reject the commandment of Jesus and disobey God and sin, he would be taken captive again by the forces of darkness and worse things would happen to him.
Yesus memperingatkan pria itu, because the man was carnal. He didn’t see the spiritual realm and couldn’t discern the spirits. But Jesus was spiritual and knew the spirit realm and the spiritual laws and revealed it to him through His word.
Jesus knew the Kingdom of Heaven and the kingdom of darkness. He wanted this man to stay free and not become a prisoner of the devil and darkness again.
Karena itu, Yesus memerintahkan manusia untuk tidak berbuat dosa lagi.
kata Yesus, Go and sin no more to the woman that committed adultery
Di John 8:1-11, we read about a woman that was caught in the act of adultery. The woman that committed adultery was brought unto Jesus. Ahli-ahli Taurat dan orang-orang Farisi menuduh perempuan itu berzina dan menceritakan kepada Yesus apa yang telah dilakukannya.
They suggested to stone her according to the Hukum Musa. But the words of these men didn’t come from a good conscience. They only wanted to tempt Jesus, so that they could accuse Him.
Yesus menulis di tanah dengan jari-Nya dan berkata kepada mereka, “He who’s sinless among you, biarkan dia menjadi orang pertama yang melemparinya dengan batu“.
Jesus knew that the people that belonged to the old generation of fallen man were carnal. They were trapped in the sinful nature of the flesh.
Instead of stoning the adultrous woman, the men left one by one until there was no one left except Jesus and the adultrous woman.
Pada saat itu, Jesus had the power to condemn the woman and stone her. Because Jesus walked in the authority of the Kingdom of God (sebagai ciptaan baru) and was sinless.
Namun, Jesus said to the woman that He wouldn’t condemn her either. Since it was not Jesus’ time to judge but to save.
TETAPI… Yesus tidak menyetujui of her work of adultery. Jesus commanded the woman to go her way and tidak berdosa lagi.
Yesus berkata padanya, Aku juga tidak menyalahkanmu: pergi, dan jangan berbuat dosa lagi

Ciptaan baru dipisahkan dari dunia
When you repent and become born again in Christ and enter the Kingdom of God, you leave the kingdom of darkness and are separated from the world. You have been forgiven, ditebus, and made whole and righteous by the blood of Jesus Christ.
You’ve become new creation and as a result of this spiritual transformation, Anda akan tinggalkan orang tuamu dengan kebiasaan lamanya.
Anda tidak akan lagi berjalan seperti yang Anda jalani sebelum pertobatan Anda, because you repented from that lifestyle and its works (dari daging).
Penting untuk menyadari hal itu kamu bukan lagi orang berdosa. You have become a saint through regeneration in Christ.
If you don’t realize and believe this, you will always think and live as a sinner. You’ll be stuck in your sins and never be freed from your sins.
Saat Anda dilahirkan kembali, Anda melangkah dari satu kerajaan spiritual ke kerajaan spiritual lainnya (Kolose 1:13-14)
In your old life, you thought like the world and walked in sin (sin = disobedience to God. It’s everything that goes against the Word of God that represents the will of God) and you were of the devil.
The nature of the devil will do his will
You had the character and nature of your father the devil. In your fallen state, engkau tidak mampu tunduk kepada Tuhan dan melakukan kehendak-Nya. Alih-alih, you lived after the will of the flesh in rebellion.
You were rebellious towards God and His Word and obedient to the words and will of the devil (kehendak, nafsu, and desire of your flesh), dan hidup dalam dosa. Alkitab mengatakan, itu jika kamu berbuat dosa, you have the devil as father and do the lust thereof (Yohanes 8:44).
When you decided untuk bertobat, kamu secara tidak langsung mengatakan bahwa kamu tidak ingin iblis menjadi ayahmu lagi. Anda tidak ingin menuruti kata-katanya dan mengikuti keinginannya. Anda muak dengan hidup Anda di bawah otoritasnya.
Ketika Anda mendengar firman Injil dan bertemu Yesus Kristus, Anda percaya kepada-Nya dan menerima Dia sebagai Juruselamat dan Tuhan Anda.
Anda menginginkan Tuhan sebagai Bapa Anda, bukan iblis, dan menaati firman-Nya serta berjalan sesuai kehendak-Nya. Anda tidak mau menuruti kata-kata iblis dan berjalan menurut kehendaknya.
Sifat Tuhan akan melakukan kehendak-Nya
From the moment you are born again and receive the nature of your Father God, you will long for Him and the things of His Kingdom. There must be a desire to do the will of God and to walk according to what God says.
A real father knows what is good for his child. A real father wants the best for his child. Jika seorang ayah di dunia menginginkan yang terbaik untuk anak-anaknya, apalagi Bapa surgawimu.
Itu sebabnya, God revealed His will to us in His Word (Alkitab).
God revealed to us not only what pleases Him and what displeases Him, but He also revealed the way of salvation, bagaimana caranya menjadi ciptaan baru and how to walk as the new creation in His will.
God revealed it all in the Bible which is His Word. Sehingga, Jalannya menjadi jalanmu Dan His thoughts becomes your thoughts.
Did the people choose to sin or not to sin?
Yesus memberitahu pria itu, yang disembuhkan dari kelemahannya dan wanita itu, yang tertangkap basah melakukan perzinahan, untuk tidak berbuat dosa lagi. Karena itu, these people had the power to sin no more. They had the power to say ‘no to sin’. But did they obey the commandment of Jesus and choose to sin no more or not?
Yesus berkata kepadanya, Kasihilah Tuhan, Allahmu, dengan segenap hatimu, dan dengan segenap jiwamu, dan dengan segenap pikiranmu. Ini adalah perintah yang pertama dan terutama. Dan yang kedua adalah seperti itu, Kasihilah sesamamu manusia seperti dirimu sendiri. Pada kedua perintah ini tergantung seluruh hukum Taurat dan kitab para nabi (Matius 22:37-40)
Wanita itu punya kekuatan untuk mengatakan 'tidak'’ untuk perzinahan, karena sebaliknya, Yesus tidak akan memberinya perintah untuk tidak berbuat dosa lagi. Pertanyaannya adalah, apakah wanita itu menanggapi Yesus’ perintah untuk tidak berbuat dosa lagi?
Did the adulterous woman obey the commandment of Jesus or did she let her feelings, nafsunya, and her desire rule over the words of Jesus and give in to her feelings of lust and desire?
Ingat, ketika Yesus memerintahkan untuk tidak berbuat dosa lagi, His crucifixion and the pencurahan Roh Kudus had not taken place yet.
So these people were not born again. They were still the old creation. However the old creation had the power to say ‘no’ berbuat dosa dan tidak berbuat dosa lagi.
Anda juga mempunyai kuasa untuk tidak berbuat dosa lagi. Anda memutuskan untuk berbuat dosa atau tidak berbuat dosa.
Melalui karya penebusan Yesus Kristus, kamu telah dijadikan kudus dan benar. Sekarang kamu telah dijadikan kudus dan benar, Anda juga telah dipanggil untuk hidup dalam kekudusan dan kebenaran (2 Korintus 5:21).
Diselamatkan oleh kasih karunia dan melakukan pekerjaan Roh
Anda tidak diselamatkan oleh perbuatan, but by grace. Namun berada di bawah kasih karunia bukan berarti Anda dibiarkan terus berbuat dosa. Karena jika daging Anda telah mati di dalam Kristus ketika Anda dilahirkan kembali, bagaimana kamu bisa melakukan pekerjaan daging?
Kasihilah Tuhan, Allahmu, dengan segenap hatimu, dan dengan segenap jiwamu dan dengan segenap akal budimu, kasihilah sesamamu manusia seperti dirimu sendiri (Matius 22:37-40)
When you are saved and born again, you see the nature and effect of sin, yang merupakan buah kematian. You will hate sin, sama seperti Tuhan. Ketika kamu sayang Tuhan dengan sepenuh hatimu, jiwa, pikiran, dan kekuatan kamu akan senang melakukan kehendak-Nya.
You shall spend time with God and renew your mind with the Word of God (Alkitab) and apply His words into your life, agar engkau menjadi pelaku firman Tuhan dan melakukan pekerjaan Roh. Anda tidak perlu melakukannya, tapi kamu ingin, karena kamu diciptakan menurut rupa-Nya dan kamu mengasihi Tuhan.
Ketika Firman dan Roh Kudus berdiam di dalam diri Anda, kamu akan berjalan menurut Roh dalam ketaatan pada Firman. Anda akan berjalan dalam cinta, kekudusan, dan kebenaran, melakukan kehendak Bapa serta meninggikan dan memuliakan Dia.
