The New Year has begun, and I would like to wish you all a blessed 2015!
When family, friends, churches or Christian organisations send their New Year’s wishes, they always write something like: ‘this shall be a year of Jubilee’, ‘it shall be a year of the breakthrough’ or ‘supernatural miracles will come your way’.
A few years ago, when this trend started, I was enthusiastic and I thought: “yeah, here it comes! This year will be a year of jubilee and the breakthrough!” But what I expected and wanted to happen, didn’t happen, and I became a little disappointed. Every year I became enthusiastic again, until about two years ago, that’s when I thought “here we go again…” It’s a little bit sad, because of one statement we all get excited and enthusiastic, but that’s only temporary. Because a few days later, most of us have forgotten all about it. This shows, that our soul; our emotions and feelings have been touched and not our spirit. These religious words are just motivational words that people want to hear.
It’s like a gramophone record that is stuck and repeats itself
Because let’s be honest, would there ever be a New Years wish, that would say: “It shall be a tough and difficult year. You will experience persecution by your family, friends, acquaintances, colleagues etc. but you must hold on to the Word and keep walking in His way”. No… I think this New year’s wish shall never come….
Why not? Because this wish shall not satisfy or please, the ears of the people. That’s not what people want to hear, although these words can be very encouraging and can prepare someone for the hardships that will come. Unfortunately, we live in an age, where almost everyone want to please others and only want to speak positive, uplifting and motivational words.
Is it bad to say that this will become a year of the breakthrough? No, not at all. But what is that breakthrough exactly?
Spiritual attacks of the devil
Every person, who becomes born again, has to deal with problems, persecution, opposition, resistance of people, attacks of the adversaries of God (the devil, demons) etc. These problems, persecutions, resistance and/or attacks, will shape you as the new creation. So that, you will mature and grow up into the image of Jesus Christ.
The world doesn’t know you
If you are a born again Christian and walk after the Spirit, then you have to deal with this, whether you want to or not. Because you no longer belong to the devil and his kingdom, but you have become an enemy of the devil. And by becoming an enemy of the devil, you have also become an enemy of this world. The world doesn’t like you anymore, because they don’t like the One, Who lives inside of you: Jesus Christ.
But when you keep on walking in the Word and hold on to the Word, then you shall be an overcomer and every day shall be a day of spiritual breakthrough. Because you shall overcome by speaking the words of God and by being a doer of the Word.
You shall not be moved anymore by situations, circumstances, or by the behaviour and attacks of people. It may not be the breakthrough, that the world defines as breakthrough. But it shall be a spiritual breakthrough in your everyday life.
I understand, that many people love to hear statements, that will encourage their soul and touch their emotions and feelings.
But when you walk after the Spirit, then you don’t need these statements anymore. Because you know, who you are in Christ. Every day, when you open the Word and study the Word, the Word shall encourage your spirit. Every day, the Word and the Spirit shall teach and guide you into all truth, so that your spirit shall mature.
You know, that as long as you stay in Jesus Christ, you have to deal with resistance and persecution of people, and the devil and demons. If you experience a breakthrough in a certain situation, then another situation (or problem) shall arise again. This will never stop! The only difference is, that the more you grow, the less it will affect you and the easier it becomes to overcome it.
The real breakthrough has already taken place
Christians, who walk after the flesh, dwell upon such statements of men. They keep using these statements because they don’t fully realise who they are in Jesus Christ. But Christians, who are born again and walk after the Spirit, know that the real breakthrough for man, happened, when Jesus died on the cross and rose from the dead. Yes, Jesus defeated the devil and took his key and gave it to those, who would believe in Him and become sons of God.
People have been given the opportunity to become reconciled with God, have a relationship with Him, through Jesus Christ, and become born of Him in the spirit, by power of the Holy Spirit. The fact, that His Holy Spirit dwells in you, and that you are seated in Jesus Christ in the Heavenly Places. That is what I call, a real breakthrough!
Peace in Him
Your should have an attitude of thanksgiving and greatfulness towards Him. You should always give Jesus the praise and honor, and thank Him daily, despite the situations, circumstances or problems you’re facing. You have to know that these situations and problems will mold you.
The difficult situations or problems will only make you stronger in Christ, as long as you stay in the Word.
When you stay in the Word, you shall have peace in Him, and you shall be able to stand in every situation.
You shall keep thanking Him in the situation, because that’s your strength.
I hope that this shall be a year, that you will open the Word, and study the Word. So that you will find out, who you really are in Jesus Christ. That you will grow up in the Word and grow up into the image of Jesus, and shall walk like Him.
Hold on to the truth and never give up! Despite the circumstances, situations, problems or people.
I pray that the churches all over the world shall open the Word and preach the truth. Instead of preaching wonderful charismatic motivational sermons, which pleases the ears of the people, but don’t line up with the will of God.
