A wise man will hear, and will increase learning ; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels: To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings (Proverbs 1:5-6)
What is a wise man?
A wise man will love the Lord above all. He will hear and listen to His words, and be open for counsel. He isn’t rebellious, and doesn’t have a haughty attitude and live in pride. A wise man doesn’t think, that he knows it all, and doesn’t exalt himself above others.
But a wise man is willing and is receptive for counsel, teaching, correction, etc. He shall have an open attitude in order to learn; to increase learning, to receive counsel, and gain more wisdom and understanding.
A wise disciple (student, pupil) is willing to learn, and submits himself to his master (the teacher).
When someone is wise, it indicates that the person is studious. Because if someone is studious, the person will hear, increase learning, and get understanding.
Only when a person hears and increase learning and get understanding, then a person will become wise.
The walk of a wise man
When someone is wise, according to the Word of God, (s)he shall also act wisely. He shall attain unto wise counsel, so that he will understand a proverb and the interpretation; the words of the wise and their dark sayings.
A wise man shall walk in the commandments of the Lord, and shall obey Him. He shall attain His ear to the instructions of the Lord, because He knows, that there is true wisdom in His instructions. Without His instructions and correction, you shall not mature and not grow up into the image of Christ.
How to become a wise man?
What do you have to do to become wise?
- Be receptive and open for God’s instructions.
- Listen to Him; His Word
- Submit yourself to Him, because He is your Master and your Teacher
- Apply His words to your life; do what He tells you to do
- Be not haughty and do not go against Him, by sticking to your own thoughts, opinion, worldly ideas, worldly views etc.
- Don’t change His instructions, so that they will fit into your lifestyle, but change your lifestyle to His Word instead.
God is God, and His instructions are the best. If you are a wise man, then you will listen to Him and do what He tells you to do.
