A wise son makes a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother (Proverbs 10:1)
A wise son
A wise son is a son, who listens to his parents because he knows that his parents love him, and have the best intentions for his life. He is not a rebel but is willing to learn from his parents and be corrected by them. He will submit himself to his parents.
His parents will teach him, and raise him in the Word of God. They will teach him, how to walk in the will of God; in His commandments.
Because of the fact that he submits himself to his parents, obey them and be open for correction and chastening, he is also able to submit himself to God, and obey Him.
He shall have a fear for God, which means that he has an awe for God. Because he has been taught to fear and to honor and respect his parents.
He shall have a glad father because his father knows on what path his son is walking, and where this path will lead him to.
A foolish son
However, a foolish son is a heaviness and a burden for his mother. He is a rebel and shall do his own will. He shall not listen, nor obey his parents. He shall not allow his parents to correct or chasten him. He shall have no respect for his parents, and therefore he shall be disobedient to them. He is prideful and always thinks he knows it better, therefore shall he put his trust in his own intellect.
He shall be unmanageable and shall go his own way. He will engage in wrong things, that go against the standards, values, and instructions of his parents. He shall get himself in trouble, and shall often call his parents to help him, to get him out of the trouble he has put himself in. He shall not learn from his mistakes, and shall not repent.
He shall be the heaviness of his mother because she knows that it can go wrong any moment. She knows the path on which he walks on, and where this path will lead him to. That’s why she will not be at ease, and shall always worry about him.
What kind of son are you?
A son of God; a wise son shall walk in the commandments of the Lord. He shall listen to what God has to say to him. He shall allow the words of his Father to teach and correct him. He shall be a doer of His words and shall walk on the path of righteousness, which leads to eternal life.
A son of the devil; a foolish son will go his own way. He shall despise and reject every commandment of God. He shall not allow Him to teach and correct him, because he always knows it better. He would rather listen to strangers. He walks in pride on the path of disobedience; the path of unrighteousness and sin, which leads to eternal death.
