Believers often have many question about things in life, that are considered normal according to the world, but are questionable to them. As I wrote before, as soon as something becomes questionable, you actually already know the answer. The Holy Spirit already revealed to you, that as a follower of Jesus Christ, it doesn’t belong in your life anymore. Unfortunately, many people have a rebellious character, and are not willing to remove certain things out of their lives, because they still enjoy doing it. They try to find all kinds of excuses to make it ok. But it’s not ok and never will be ok. The truth is, that the love they have for their flesh is greater than the love they have for Jesus. The love for the flesh always causes strive with the Spirit. Now let’s have a look at masturbation. Is it ok for a born again believer to masturbate? Or is masturbation a sin and is it against the will of God?
The spiritual world becomes visible in
the natural world.
The first important thing to know is, whatever happens in the spiritual realm, will eventually become visible in the natural realm; the visible world. Nothing stays hidden, everything will be exposed by the light. You can see, what kind of demonic forces are active in families, houses, places, cities, countries, territories, and so on, by looking at the lives of the people and their behaviour. Demons, are unclean spirits, who want to possess people, so that they can manifest themselves. They are always looking in who’s life they can enter, who’m they can control and in whom they can cause destruction
The world revolves around sex
We live in world, where everything in life revolves around sex. Almost everywhere you go, you will be confronted with sexual content; in magazines, in books, on television, billboards, at school, at work, via social media and let’s not forget in conversations.
What used to be forbidden and taboo, has now been accepted and has become normal. This didn’t happen overnight, but it happened very slowly. For example, when you watched a movie in the old days, it was very provocative for actors to kiss each other. But nowadays, you will see them naked, while kissing and be intimate to each other. There is no shame anymore.
Because of the big influence of sex in the lives of people, masturbation has also become very normal. Most people even talk freely about. But what happens, when you repent of your sin, accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour and lay down your flesh? When you become born again in the spirit, can you keep on masturbating? Is masturbation an act of the spirit or an act of the flesh, which you need to put it off, according to the Word?
What causes masturbation?
You masturbate, when you are wrought-up and overwhelmed with sexual feelings of lust, that you want to satisfy. These feelings of lust don’t appear suddenly; they don’t appear out of the blue. But these feelings of lust, came forth out of your senses (what you perceived) and out of your mind.
Your senses perceived sexual explicit images or content, which entered your mind. In your mind you dwelled upon these sexual images, content and fantasies, which provoked these sexual feelings of lust. These sexual feelings of lust may lead to masturbation. Therefore, before the act of masturbation takes place, a lot of things have already been taken place in your mind and your body.
You cannot masturbate, without having sexual thoughts, sexual images or sexual fantasies. That is impossible!
Sexual feelings of lust will be nurtured by your senses and your mind (thoughts, images, fantasies etc.), and will lead to masturbation.
What are you looking at?
Let’s have a look at a few examples in our daily lives, that can stir up these feelings of lust. Let’s start with the eyes; and what you are looking at. When you watch a movie, series or program that contains sexual content, the images will settle in your mind, and can provoke sexual feelings of lust.
What happens in the spiritual world, is that these unclean spirits of lust, that the movie, series, or program contains, will try to enter your life via these images. When they enter your life, they will manifest themselves in your flesh. They will constantly bring up these sexual images to your mind and will create all kinds of perverse fantasies. These images and perverse thoughts will causes sexual feelings of lust, which you want to satisfy. The only way to satisfy these feelings of lust is by masturbating.
Romantic erotic books
These unclean sexual spirits can also enter your life through magazines, books etc. The words you read, can create sexual images and fantasies in your mind. Your mind will provoke sexual feelings of lust, which may lead to masturbation.
These images represent all kind of things, that go against the Word of God. Like for example: adultery, premarital sex, same-sex, sex with multiple persons, sex with animals, sex with minors, and so on.
Through these sexual unclean images and content, a spirit of lust will enter your mind, and will not leave you alone. This spirit of lust will constantly bring up these unclean images and content in your mind.
This spirit shall create sexual fantasies, that will provoke sexual feelings of lust. You want to satisfy these feelings of lust, and therefore you will masturbate.
But not only through the (social) media, you will be confronted with sexual images and content. Because in your daily life, you will be confronted with sexual images: on the streets via billboards or the way someone is dressed, at school, at work, or even in church. You look at that person, and what you perceive can create images and fantasies in your mind, which can lead to masturbation.
What are you listening to?
Let’s say, that you are having a conversation with someone at home, at school, at your job, on the street or in the supermarket. Suddenly, the person starts telling you a dirty joke or a dirty story. By listening, you grant your ears to the dirty words, that are spoken. These dirty words, will be transformed into sexual images in your mind. These sexual images in your mind can provoke sexual feelings of lust, which could lead to masturbation.
What do you feel?
During sports, at school or at your job, you can become very close to someone of the opposite gender or someone may have ulterior motives. The person tries to seduce you by standing close to you, touching you or embracing you, which could cause sexual fantasies, and provoke sexual feelings of lust, which you will satisfy by masturbating.
What do you drink?
Alcohol and sex are spiritual friends. When you drink a couple of glasses of wine, beer or other alcoholic beverages, the alcohol will provoke sexual feelings of lust, which can lead to masturbation.
I have given some examples. But of course, there are many more examples to give, which can provoke sexual feelings of lust.
Masturbation is a work of the flesh and not of the spirit
One thing is for sure, and that is that masturbation is carnal. Masturbation comes forth out of the flesh, and is therefore a work of the flesh. It all begins with your senses and your mind. Your mind controls your feelings. Therefore if you are overwhelmed with sexual feelings of lust, than a lot of things have already been taken place in your mind.
It is important to guard your mind and be careful what you are looking at, or to what you listen to etc..
You should guard your mind against unclean sexual images or content, which can create sexual fantasies. You must be careful on what thoughts you dwell upon in your mind.
When you keep your mind pure, and holy, and guard your senses and mind against these sexual images, content and fantasies, then your mind shall not provoke sexual feelings of lust.
But as soon as you open yourself for all kind of sexual filthiness, that will create sexual images, thoughts and fantasies in your mind, then it won’t be long before you will become a slave of this unclean spirit, and masturbate.
Not many people are conscious of the fact, that as soon as you create sexual fantasies in your mind of other persons, you commit adultery. You cannot masturbate without having erotic images, thoughts or fantasies in your mind. The Word says, that if you only look at a person with lust, then you have already committed adultery.
What does the Word say about sexual thoughts and fantasies?
You have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looks on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart (Mat 5:27-28)
Jesus knew the spiritual world, and knew what happened if you lust in your mind (heart) after someone, who isn’t’ your spouse. That’s why Jesus said, that if you lust after someone, who isn’t your spouse, you have already committed adultery in your heart. When you let that spirit of lust have its way in your mind, and when you create sexual images of another person in your mind, then in the spiritual world, you will be joint together to that person.
What does the Word say about feelings in the flesh?
People, who are not born again or who are still spiritual baby’s, are slaves of their flesh. Therefore they will be led by their senses, mind and their feelings. Their feelings, emotions and thoughts dictates them what to do.
Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others (Eph 2:3)
They won’t defile their minds, because they don’t want to become partakers of the kingdom of darkness. Therefore they keep their minds pure, by focussing upon the holy things of God.
The sons of God are able to discern good from evil. Therefore, they won’t engage with evil. Because they know, that sin will lead to bondage and eventually to death.
When you masturbate, you have become a slave of your feelings of lust, which are caused by a sexual unclean spirit of lust. Therefore when you obey this feeling, you shall be bound to this spirit of lust.
Masturbation is an act of bondage to the flesh
Masturbation is a bondage (addiction) and therefore it’s not a one time thing. Once you start, and obey that spirit of lust by masturbating, you allow that spirit of lust rule over you. Therefore you shall become addicted, and you shall not be able to stop masturbating. The images in your mind, that turned you on in the beginning, shall not ‘work’ anymore. Therefore, you shall push your limits and create other more perverse images and phantasies.
When you become aware, and see who keeps you in bondage, and you want to stop, then the only thing you have to do is to command that spirit of lust to leave your body. You shall command him to go, in the Name of Jesus.
When he tries to come back, by bringing up unclean images, or fantasies, in your mind, or feelings of lust in your body, you won’t give in. But you will remind him that you’ve told him to go in the Name of Jesus. You tell him, that he has no right to occupy your mind. Because your mind belongs to Jesus Christ.
You should take every thought, that goes against the Word of God, captive in Jesus Christ; the Word. But only can do that if you know the Word. Therefore take the Word of God and meditate on the Word. You should dwell day and night on the words of God, and let them not depart your mind. If you do that, I will guarantee, that these feelings of lust will leave your mind and your body.
Do you want to stop masturbating?
But it all depends upon your will. Do you really want to stop masturbating or not? Is your love for Jesus greater, than the love you have for your flesh?
If you want to stop, but don’t have any control over your will, because of the fact that your will is possessed by demonic forces. I you are not in the position to tell these unclean spirit of lust to go. Then all you have to do is find a born again believer, who walks after the Spirit in the authority of Jesus Christ, and who can deliver you from these demonic forces.
The power of the Holy Spirit can set any person free instantly. No human therapy can beat the power of the Holy Spirit. It doesn’t matter if you are possessed by one demonic spirit or hundreds of demonic spirits. Because in the Name of Jesus Christ you can be set free instantly.
When you have been set free, you must not forget to renew your mind with the Word of God, and meditate on the Word.
What if leaders of a church masturbate?
How can a pastor, reverend, elder, pastoral caretaker or other leader of the church, who is bound by the flesh by a spirit of lust, set other persons free of a demonic spirit of lust? That’s impossible.
If a leader of a church or congregation, masturbates and speaks to the congregation via a sermon, than the spirit of lust, who controls his/her life, will be transferred to the hearers. When a person comes for help, and the leader lay hands on a person, or pray with a person, than this spirit of lust, will also be transferred into the life of the person, who came for help.
How can someone lead a church or congregation, or guide and advice people in their daily life, if their own life is one big mess? How can they set other people free, while they are bound by the lusts and desires of their flesh?
If the Spirit of God abides in you, then you shall not walk after the flesh anymore, but after the Spirit (Rom 8:9)
When you masturbate and satisfy your feelings; your flesh, then you shall obey your flesh and therefore you shall be a slave of your flesh (Rom 8:12).
God is a holy and righteous God. If you are His son, and His Holy Spirit; His nature, dwells in you, then He also expects you to walk in holiness and righteousness.
And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts (Gal 5:24)
May a person, who’s single masturbate?
The answer is: “no”. The fact that you are a bachelor doesn’t give you the right to masturbate. Despite what people, including other ‘believers’ may tell you. When you masturbate, you create unclean sexual images and fantasies in your mind, and therefore you defile your mind, and commit adultery.
Paul said to the assembly in Corinthian: Now concerning the things whereof ye wrote unto me:It is good for a man not to touch a woman. Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband (1 Co 7:1-2)
Defraud you not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency.(1 Co 7:5-6)
I am aware, that this applies to marriage, but this principle of temptation will apply to everyone. When satan tempts you with feelings of lust, which are unclean carnal feelings, and you are not able to master over these feelings, than the word says that you have a lack of self-control (incontinency).
It is therefore important to crucify the lust and desires of the flesh; to put off the old man, and to put on the new man. So that you will walk after the Spirit, and not after the flesh. When you walk after the Spirit then you shall not fulfil the lust and desires of the flesh.
Someone who is married, shall always care for things that are of the world (to please his wife, or to please her husband). But someone who is unmarried shall care for the things that belong to the Lord, and how he/she may please the Lord (1 Co 7:32)
When you are not married, and walk after the Spirit, you shall care for the things of the Kingdom of God. As long as you are focused upon the Kingdom of God and seek those things which are above, instead of the things that are in this world, you won’t be ‘bothered’ with sexual unclean thoughts, fantasies, or feelings of lust.
When you are single, and you ‘wrestle’ with sexual feelings of lust, that will lead to masturbation, then it’s important to ask yourself, with what things you feed your mind? With the things of the Kingdom of God or the things of this world?
The church of Jesus Christ should live holy and righteous
Many impurities (defilements) take place in the body of Jesus Christ. It happens often, that a pastor, preacher, worship leader, pastoral caretaker, or other leaders of the church commit adultery, have homosexual sex, or abuse children etc., in secret. Why does this happen? Because they are carnal and are being led by their flesh; a spirit of lust. They haven’t crucified their flesh. They may say, that they have but their actions speaks louder than their words. When they keep walking after the flesh, they are led by the flesh.
But Paul says in the letter to the assembly in Ephesians: fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient:but rather giving of thanks. For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God (Eph 5:3-5)
They that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts (Gal 5:24)
If the flesh, with the affections and lusts, is crucified, which means that it is death, how can a person walk after the flesh? You can only walk after the flesh, if it is not death yet.
For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God (1 Th 4:3-5)
That unbelievers masturbate is normal, because they belong to the world and their flesh rules their lives. But a child of God, who is born of His Spirit, and has crucified the flesh with all the lusts and desires, shall no longer walk as a slave of their flesh, which will lead to sin. But they will master over their flesh.
Is masturbation a sin?
Is masturbation a sin? Yes, masturbation is a sin, because it is a work of the flesh. Therefore masturbation is against the will of God, and His Word. If the Word of God says, that a son of God shall not walk after the flesh; after his lusts and desires, how can a son of God masturbate? Sexual feelings causes masturbation. Therefore when you masturbate, you obey your feelings, and the lusts of your flesh. You will become their slave.
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world (1 Jo 2;16)
Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh (Gal 5:16-17)
‘Be the salt of the earth’
